The installation 《WURM DRIN》 by the artist collective Protoplast, curated by Robert Pufleb, was presented at ANNAHME BASEL, an art space located in the former post office building at Basel SBB railway station. Situated in a prominent and highly frequented area of the city, ANNAHME BASEL hosted the opening on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5 to 9 pm. The exhibition was later extended and ran until February 2, 2026.

Protoplast was invited by curator Christophe Floré to present a new site-specific installation at SECONDroom in Antwerp on August 23–24, 2025. Founded in 2006, SECONDroom is an artist-run off-space that has established itself as a vital platform for experimental and independent practices in Belgium. The presentation followed a fruitful collaboration between Protoplast and SECONDroom at an art fair in Madrid earlier that year (March 2025). We gratefully acknowledge the support of the District of Antwerp.

For the group exhibition «EinBlick» at Filiale Basel, invited by curator Eric Hattan, the artist collective Protoplast collaborated with Argentinian performance artist Lux Valladolid. Together, they presented a documentary photographic work that offered an intimate glimpse into Protoplast’s studio practice. The exhibition took place before and during Kunsttage Basel (August 29–31, 2025) and was based on an open call initiated by the Filiale team.

Protoplast’s site-specific installation was shown at Schlossbad Erwitte in the context of the group exhibition “Freischwimmen (Kunst im Bad)”, invited by curator Petra Lüning. The exhibition’s title Freischwimmen merges the athletic aspect of swimming with its metaphorical sense — a movement toward freedom and release from everyday constraints. The project attracted national attention and was featured in a TV report by ARD, Germany’s public broadcaster. The opening took place on Friday, July 11, 2025. Sea of the Edge’s curator Dylan Spence invited the artist collective Protoplast to exhibit a series of new oil paintings at the Basel off-space, which is dedicated to progressive underground music and art. The exhibition, titled “Sea of Pain”, ran until August 31, 2025.

The Protoplast poster campaign during ART BASEL 2025, presented by Galerie Sammlung Amann (Stuttgart), ran across public billboards in the Basel region from June 11 to 25, 2025. Featuring three striking motifs, the campaign announced upcoming Protoplast exhibitions at Fondation WhiteSpaceBlackBox in Neuchâtel (Switzerland), Kunst im Schlossbad in Erwitte (Germany), and SECONDroom in Antwerp (Belgium), highlighting the collective’s expanding international program.

Protoplast was invited by curator Friederike Schmid to participate in the group exhibition “To Be. Or to Have”, alongside artists including Troika, Park Jongwoo, Katja Loher, and Christian Achenbach. The opening reception took place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 2–5 pm, and the exhibition remained on view through November 16, 2025.

The solo exhibition by Protoplast at Kunstraum APROPOS in Lucerne, invited by curator Monika Günther, was kindly supported by the City of Lucerne / FUKA-Fonds and the Casimir Eigensatz Stiftung and was on view from April 26 to June 2, 2025. Founded in 1971 as one of Lucerne’s first alternative art spaces, APROPOS has played a significant role in Switzerland’s visual and performance art landscape.

SECONDroom Antwerp invited the artist collective Protoplast to take part in the group exhibition HYBRID, curated by Ludovica Cadario. Art historian Tamara Beheydt described the invitation as follows: “SECONDroom’s invitation to Protoplast is an example of our core attitude: to offer hospitality to artists with a ‘stubborn’ and unique practice, with a tendency towards experimentation. The exchange will continue beyond the art fair, as the artists’ collective will give a presentation in our space in Antwerp on August 23 and 24, 2025. In this way, we hope to build sincere and lasting artistic relationships across borders and with a wide audience.”

The solo exhibition by Protoplast at Kulturwerk T66 in Freiburg im Breisgau, invited by curator Helge Emmaneel, was on view from January 24 to February 23, 2025. In the first-floor exhibition space, Protoplast presented an installation incorporating electrical devices, while the upper-floor gallery featured a series of new oil paintings. During the opening, Max Siebenhaar, curator of Kunstraum Delphi in Freiburg, gave the introductory speech. Kulturwerk T66 is run by BBK Südbaden, a non-profit association founded in 2002, and has established itself as an important platform for contemporary art in the Upper Rhine region, working with both regional and international artists.

The solo exhibition by Protoplast at Manger & Boire in Basel, curated by Benny Kammüller, was selected by the venue’s curating jury as the winner of its annual Open Call. The exhibition opened on December 14, 2024, and was initially scheduled to run until March 29, 2025, but was extended due to popular demand and remained on view until May 17, 2025. The project was the subject of a feature in the feuilleton section of the Basler Zeitung, written by culture journalist Mélanie Honegger.

The presentation by Protoplast at Kunsttage Basel 2024 took place at Keck Kiosk in Basel on September 1, 2024, at 5 p.m. Invited by the Unofficial Hiking Society AG, Protoplast contributed the session “Bite sized theory and snacks with PROTOPLAST” to a program of talks with guests from the fields of theory, art, and research. Over the three days, the “unofficial hiking agency” hosted conversations with Dorian Sari (Friday, EN), Bernhard Garnicnig (Saturday, EN), and Protoplast (Sunday, DE).

The art poster campaign «endobone palaectomy» by Protoplast, presented by Galerie Sammlung Amann, was displayed on more than 100 public billboards across the Basel region during the ART BASEL fair from June 3 to 17, 2024. Sponsored by APG|SGA and a private art consortium, the project extended the collective’s practice into public space, turning the city itself into a temporary exhibition site.

Editor-in-chief Sabine Knosala of the Swiss cultural magazine PROZ (ProgrammZeitung) invited Protoplast to create a “carte blanche” contribution for the May 2024 issue. The artist collective used this special section to develop a dedicated visual intervention in the magazine. Founded in 1987, PROZ is one of the key independent culture magazines in Northwestern Switzerland, with in-depth coverage of contemporary art, theatre, music, and literature.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by curator Ruxandra Mitache to take part in the group exhibition “Melting Walls” at Murmurcontemporary in Montreux. The show opened on April 6, 2024 (4–8 pm) and ran until May 18, 2024, presenting Protoplast’s exploration of cultural elements merging with their surroundings through an evocative mise-en-scène projection.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by curator Gabi Luigs to participate in the group exhibition "Art Artist" in Düsseldorf. Parallel to ART Düsseldorf, the fair presented only artist collectives, off-spaces, project rooms, new formats, and studio communities to highlight the relevance and reach of artistic networks for professional artists. The event took place from April 12 to 14, 2024.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by De Filippo Contemporary to take part in the group exhibition ‘Echoes of the Future’ at Gabinete de LA GRAN in Madrid, curated by Ludovica Cadario. The show opened on February 24, 2024 and was extended to remain on view until March 31, 2024. Supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport, the exhibition brought together positions that reflect on possible futures through contemporary artistic practice.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by curator and collector Karl Amann to present a solo exhibition at Galerie Sammlung Amann in Stuttgart. Architect and art collector Karl Amann has been building his private collection of modern and contemporary art since the late 1990s and extended it with this permanent gallery space and project room in Stuttgart-West. The public Protoplast works in the streets of Stuttgart were generously supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart (Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart). The artistic poster works were installed in various public locations across Stuttgart for the duration of the project.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by the three curators Michael Krey, Gabi Luigs, and Heinke Haberland to present a solo exhibition at THE POOL. THE POOL is an independent art and exhibition space located in a converted former swimming pool beneath a 1960s residential complex by architect Paul Schneider-Esleben. Run as an underground off-space by this curating team, it has become a meeting point for experimental contemporary art, music, and cross-disciplinary projects in Düsseldorf’s independent art scene.

Swiss television DRS "Kultur im Gespräch" and 3Sat produced and broadcast a film about this project on 14 and 20 November 1993. And on 30 November 1993, Swiss Radio DRS2 reported on "Protoplast light" - the project for ecological living by halving consumption in support of the Basel Lighthouse in the fight against AIDS.

In 1992, Claudia and Julia Müller, Esther Hiepler and Daniela Keiser invited Protoplast to participate in the group exhibition SORTIMENT at Elisabethenstrasse 36 in Basel. For six weeks, the exhibition presented editions by several selected artists from northwestern Switzerland, shaped by contemporary debates surrounding commercial issues in art. In this context, Protoplast introduced the artefact «vvvirus» to the public at this unique location.
