Galerie Jakob

Schlossbad Erwitte

Protoplast’s site-specific installation was shown at Schlossbad Erwitte in the context of the group exhibition “Freischwimmen (Kunst im Bad)”, invited by curator Petra Lüning. The exhibition’s title Freischwimmen merges the athletic aspect of swimming with its metaphorical sense — a movement toward freedom and release from everyday constraints. The project attracted national attention and was featured in a TV report by ARD, Germany’s public broadcaster. The opening took place on Friday, July 11, 2025. During the opening, Max Siebenhaar, curator of Kunstraum Delphi in Freiburg, gave the introductory speech. Kulturwerk T66 is run by BBK Südbaden, a non-profit association founded in 2002, and has established itself as an important platform for contemporary art in the Upper Rhine region, working with both regional and international artists.

The artist collective Protoplast was invited by curator and collector Karl Amann to present a solo exhibition at Galerie Sammlung Amann in Stuttgart. Architect and art collector Karl Amann has been building his private collection of modern and contemporary art since the late 1990s and extended it with this permanent gallery space and project room in Stuttgart-West. The public Protoplast works in the streets of Stuttgart were generously supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart (Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart). The artistic poster works were installed in various public locations across Stuttgart for the duration of the project.

Weimar Kulturhauptstadt Europas 1999

invited by curator Bernd Kauffmann (director of Weimar 1999 Kulturstadt Europas GmbH). In 1999, Protoplast developed a new project for Weimar on the occasion of "Kulturhauptstadt Europa 1999" under the motto ''Endlich wird Zukunft wirklich''. It was called 《grau》and consisted of the installation of seven imaginary construction sites all over the "Goethe City" of Weimar and an additional "Protoplast Grau Information Desk" in the ACC Gallery in Weimar.

Swiss television DRS "Kultur im Gespräch" and 3Sat produced and broadcast a film about this project on 14 and 20 November 1993. And on 30 November 1993, Swiss Radio DRS2 reported on "Protoplast light" - the project for ecological living by halving consumption in support of the Basel Lighthouse in the fight against AIDS.

In 1992, Claudia and Julia Müller, Esther Hiepler and Daniela Keiser invited Protoplast to participate in the group exhibition SORTIMENT at Elisabethenstrasse 36 in Basel. For six weeks, the exhibition presented editions by several selected artists from northwestern Switzerland, shaped by contemporary debates surrounding commercial issues in art. In this context, Protoplast introduced the artefact «vvvirus» to the public at this unique location.
